Australian Patent Allowed for Emergency Eye Wash Technology
IP Australia has issued a Notice of Acceptance for Australian Patent Application No. 2024428345, titled EMERGENCY EYE WASH, naming inventors Stewart Lebrun and Linda Nguyen of Lebrun Labs LLC. Accepted on 10 August 2026 and to be advertised in the Australian Official Journal of Patents on 27 August 2026, the patent covers a shelf-stable two-part device that produces a buffered 0.1% to 0.3% ascorbic acid eyewash solution (pH 6.0 to 6.99) for emergency treatment of corneal exposure to strong oxidizing or corrosive chemicals. The device separates a solid ascorbic acid powder from a liquid portion until use, enabling on-demand preparation of 100 mL to 1000 mL of eyewash within 10 minutes of chemical exposure. Claims cover both the device formulation and delivery methods including laminar-flow nozzles and an inverted eye gasket for corneal bathing. The 8-claim patent has a priority date of 15 February 2024 and a term running to 24 September 2044.
